First of all—congratulations! 🥂 You’ve said “yes” to forever, and now the fun (and sometimes overwhelming) part begins… planning your wedding.
If you’re staring at your brand-new ring wondering, “Okay, now what?”—you’re not alone. The good news? You don’t have to do everything at once. Here’s a simple starting checklist to help you focus on what matters most in the beginning.
1. Celebrate the Moment
Before diving into timelines and spreadsheets, take a breath and soak it all in. Share the news with your closest people, pop some bubbly, and enjoy being engaged. This season deserves to be savored.
2. Talk About the Big Picture
Sit down with your partner and dream out loud. Do you picture a cozy backyard wedding, a big ballroom celebration, or maybe something outdoors under the stars? Start with vision before details.
3. Set a Budget (and Guest List)
It might not be the most exciting part, but it’s one of the most important. Your budget and guest count will guide nearly every other decision—from your venue to your catering to your décor.
4. Book Your Venue & Planner Early
Venues and planners are often the first vendors to book up (sometimes a year or more in advance). If you have your heart set on a certain place—or you know you want planning support—start here.
5. Create a Planning Timeline
Once your venue is secured, the rest of your planning will fall into place. This is where having a checklist or a planner by your side can save you tons of stress. Think: What needs to be booked 9 months out, 6 months out, and so on.
Want a head start? I’ve put together a free Wedding Planning Checklist PDF you can download and keep handy throughout your engagement. It breaks everything down step-by-step so you can stay organized and enjoy the journey.
